Job Description & Job Duties

Home support worker (NOC Code 44101) will be responsible for providing companionship and psychological support including emotional support to the person suffering from disability and chronic health issues. The candidate needs to provide personal care in the client's residence or at work. Living in the client's residence is optional for the worker. 

The candidate will be responsible for the following job duties:

  • Acting as a companion and providing personal care to the client suffering from disability during the period of family disruption.

  • Providing emotional, psychological and mental support to the client suffering from mental health issues such as abdominal pain, depression, stress and anxiety.

  • Engaging in interpersonal, family oriented and healthy communications with the client to improve daily morale and boost motivation to recover from lack of energy and depressed mood.  

  • Establishing trustworthy and reliable relationships with the client to provide the required emotional support for improving health. 

  • Assisting with planning and preparing daily meals and special diets. 

  • Taking care of the client by performing routine health-related duties especially in case of medical needs for the administration of medicines. 

  • Supporting the client in engaging in healthy exercises such as yoga and meditation. 

  • Accompanying the client on walks and visits to medical stores or health clinics to purchase medicine, and assisting with grocery shopping to replenish and maintain essential supplies. 

  • Assisting with daily household and housekeeping tasks such as washing utensils, laundry, grass cutting, snow shoveling etc.  

Job Requirement

  • The candidate must have proficiency in the client's native languages, Punjabi and Hindi other than basic understanding in English.

  • A bachelor's degree is preferred. Completion of secondary school is mandatory.

  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience of taking care of family.

  • The candidate should be highly trustworthy, reliable and honest to the client.  

  • The candidate should foster respectful and healthy interpersonal relationships with the client. 

Worksite Setting

The positions are based in Regina (Saskatchewan) and Halifax (Nova Scotia). The candidate must be willing to relocate to the job location.
